I finished adding flowers to the berm in the back yard. (see above) The flowers I had left went to the raised beds in the front yard. I completed the sidewalk barrier using the twist ties as a continuous tie back between my plants along the sidewalk. The flowers get really tall especially the black eyed susan’s and the butterfly bushes. I try to keep them out of the sidewalk as there is a lot of pedestrian traffic on my corner.
I ended May with getting all the plants that were in pots into the ground. This included several banana pepper plants that I finally moved from the green house to a raised bed in the backyard. Because I grow mostly flowers, not so many veggies, I seem to be creating an incubator system to add plants to my existing flower beds in both the front and back yard. I start seeds under lights in the basement and move then to greenhouse. From there they go to raised beds to grow larger, then placing them around the yard as needed. I mowed the front yard this afternoon. Today is Monday and it’s supposed to rain every day the rest of the week, so I did it today.
It’s a process. I only have myself and my plants to please, so it seems to work out. I’m growing only perennials this year. So, filling in areas where I’ve had annuals seems to be the way to go. My gardens have only me to maintain, and I am almost seventy-three-year-old. I’m finding my energy level is slowing down; however, I am trying to greatly increase my daily calorie intake as suggested by my dietitian at Mercy, so it seem getting more exercise and getting more calories in my diet is the key. Keeping my weight up seems to be the priority. If you follow me here, you know I have two loves… my writing and my gardens. Of course, Marie, Katie, Emily, my chickens and dog Emma come in there as well. And two cats Nala and Jade plus Katie’s rabbit.
