This past week has been a little difficult. We lost power due to a storm with sixty-to-eighty-mile hour wind then the internet was down the next few days due to ATT having problems getting everything back on. Lots of trees down, but fortunately only effect here on my corner was that all the tall perennials were blown over. Fortunately, after the sun was out for a couple days they stood back up.
The Hillbilly Garden Club was planning to come over for a Saturday labeling party for the perennials in my front yard this month, but we had to cancel due to storm damage and trying to get everything ready. Maybe we’ll try again in September or October.
My biggest headache is keeping up with the weeds along the front of the house. Pulling these weeds in a task I don’t particularly enjoy with it getting to almost ninety degrees now every day. It’s a challenge to be out after 9:30 or 10:00 every morning because it’s just too hot. The flowers have recovered, and I need to put more wire up along the edges to hold them up.
My Joe Pye Weed seeds came. They need a month cold spell, so I’ll put them in the refrigerator for about a month. This is a “as soon as possible” thing so that I can get the seeds started in mid-August downstairs so I can move them to greenhouse then overwinter in the raised beds in the back yard. Speaking of downstairs under the lights I still have a tray of forget-me-nots and a couple trays of blanket flowers that seems to be doing okay. As for what’s in greenhouse now I have some late tomatoes that need to go out ASAP. My cole crops can stay inside until next month when I set them out.
Now I have to get to the weeds and seeds. Not much fun to be doing over fourth of July weekend.
