Gardening updates with more repotting and labels

Day 3 repotting along with everything else…

The last week of March and month of April are the busiest time for me. Cooler and lots of rain. Perennials in my yard will really take off now. In addition to repotting (I now have everything repotted but tomatoes). I finished preparing the raised beds in my back yard and cleaning up most of the southeast front yard. I traded a tray with lettuce and kale for some strawberry plants that need to be planted. I’ll plant them in four-by-four raised bed in that southeast corner.

I’ve been digging up wild onions in the front yard. What a nuisance. I think I could spend a whole day digging them up. Lots of rain today so that should loosen them to dig up too. They spread quickly and if I don’t dig them up, they multiply very quickly. They are like dandelions. You can’t do much with them if none of your neighbors do the same. Dandelions I don’t mind so much, wild onions I have been fighting for ten years. Now I have moles and lime green weeds crowding out my grass. It’s always something. And yes, I got my onions plants in beds with potatoes and peas.

I notified Maryann at Master Gardeners to begin making labels for my plants. She is helping me thanks… I have only the following plants to be added to be repotted listed below, except for the two hundred plus tomato plants.  Plus, a tray of peppers in green house that need labels… I’ll need to do an inventory of plants I sent to her to make sure I got everything. Maryann texted yesterday they need more old venetian window blinds. I texted back that we have some and we’ll donate.  They cut them up for plant labels, they work great.

Day 3 plants to be repotted:

  1. Repot tray of California Wonder peppers 14 pots 40 plants
  1. Repot tray of Banana peppers 14 pots 56 plants
  1. Repot tray of small marigold flowers 14 pots 42 plants

42 pots    138 plants

(note: the number of pots denote the number of labels that need to be made)

Tomatoes should be ready on Monday (tomorrow) to begin. I have four pots of immortality iris that need to go to raised beds and will re-plant my perennials (Shasta daisies and pink cone flowers) from green house to raised beds. My container green beans need a new home, and I’ll reuse pots for them. They’ll stay in greenhouse for now.

I took lawn mower to repair shop on East Bennett the front tires need adjusting so I’ll have him re-condition for a new year. At same time, I went and bought four bales of straw to spread on ground in back yard chicken area and around and in raised beds. It’s always something. My list is explained by saying I’ll do it when I get around to it…

Most challenging thing is putting pictures of my gardens on computer to use in my entries every day.
