Doing great things for eternity’s sake

Many great writings of the day including both the Tao Te Ching and I Ching were often carved in stone stele that served as references like a library, many now over two thousand years old. I saw several of these in Shandong while I was in China. The best copies existing today were included in burial plots from thousands of years ago. Commentaries over the centuries have led to continuity of both thought and intention. Bringing them forward for today’s understanding in today’s world is important in history’s telling. The ancient bamboo slips became very durable over time and have served their intention very well.

My own version of the I Ching told here served as both an introduction to Chinese history and opened the door to who would be called sages, or dragons, and Taoism. A door I was to walk through. But changing directions first as you begin to acknowledge that it is not where you are, but who you are that’s important. Releasing ego and self-importance the first step to greatness that only beacons once you let go of who you thought you were.

The willingness to change the key to where endeavor and destiny lead us. Staying where you are means remaining confined and oppressed not allowing for the self-expression that defines the journey ahead.

Number 47 of the I Ching

A Journey Eastward

Prospects depleted with your actions worn into the ground, you decide it may be time to pack up and move on. Ties and friends becoming unraveled and frayed like an old coat worn much too long.

A situation you helped to create has led to much good for all in the neighborhood.  But your involvement has come in the end, it is time to go. Three years hence has come and gone bringing anguish and unsurity as to which way should be taken. However, your chi tells you to be gone. Feeling abandoned and trapped by situations of your own making the decision is made.

A position is found in a large city, the environment not too far away. Working with the elements advocating protection of the earth, wind water and sky. Lobbying your old friends in the capital city that you can see eye to eye. Protecting the environment certainly a worthwhile cause. Knowing all the while that this is only a worthy pause. Insight and action prevailing in the end. Another situation awaits, time to move on again.

Journeying eastward finding yourself close to the home of your ancestors you feel as though you have finally come home.  A new position found with the knowledge that everything experienced to date has only been to prepare for that which is still to come.  Doors and situations now opening. You are prepared to settle down and stake out your claim.
