Cutting back in the Spring is not only what’s planted in the front yard, but around and in the pond in the back yard. Easily one of my least favorite tasks. But once done and the pond refilled and turned on, becoming one of my most favorite. They say that the sound of running water adds to the serenity and peacefulness of the area. I think it reverts back to what seems to be a narrative here. The constant running of the water in the pond adds a vibrancy, a vibration that seems to create almost an ambiance. You are reminded of something greater than yourself, that the water tricking down the rocks going over the edge and falling into the pool/pond, seems to confirm how it is that nature all comes together. The presence of water does that. Watching the chickens pop their heads up when I turned the water on in the pond was fun. They all had to come check it out.
My chickens seem to insist on laying their eggs out in the yard. It’s become like an early Easter egg hunt. After about a week of getting the fence up, they are not staying in the coop or area defined for them but laying eggs out in a pre-selected spot they have found in the yard. So, now that the fence at long last is up… they are simply going under it. Well, they haven’t found my peas yet that are about a foot tall already. I am afraid it’s only a matter of time. Someone define a paradox for me please.
I am making a concerted efforts to do more container gardening for my greenhouse this year and repotted about a dozen pots of johnny jump up flowers. I also have a tray of Bush Blue Lake Green Beans that are ready to be transplanted in the greenhouse that are supposed to be container friendly. They’re next we’ll see. My peas are looking good… the chickens have not found them yet. It’s always something.
