Morning Meditation — Spinning the Wheel of Blessings

(I took this picture at the Arhat Temple situated in the Yuzhong District of Chongqing, China in June 2017)

Sit comfortably and imagine yourself standing before the prayer wheels at the Luohan Buddhist Temple in Chongqing. The early light has just begun to filter through the wooden beams, touching the golden cylinders with a soft glow. The temple is quiet, but not silent — you can feel the presence of every sutra resting inside each wheel, waiting to be released.

Take a slow breath in.

As you exhale, place your hand gently on the nearest wheel. Feel its cool surface, the carved symbols, the weight of centuries of intention.

Begin to turn the wheel with a steady, effortless motion.

With each rotation, imagine a blessing rising — not for you alone, but for all beings. Family, friends, strangers, those you will meet today, and those you will never meet. Let the wheel spin for them, for the world, for the unseen.

Breathe again.

Let the movement of the wheel become the movement of your own thoughts — slow, steady, unforced. Let the sutras inside the wheel become the quiet prayers you carry within yourself.

As the wheel continues to turn, imagine its blessings flowing outward like ripples in water. Touching the morning. Touching the day ahead. Touching every step you will take.

Pause.

Feel the stillness that follows each rotation — the moment when the wheel is between movements, the moment where wu wei lives.

Let that stillness settle into your chest.

Know that you do not need to force anything today. You do not need to chase outcomes. You do not need to hold the world together.

You simply turn the wheel.

You simply let blessings move outward.

You simply walk in harmony with the Way.

Take one more breath, deep and steady.

When you are ready, release the wheel. Let it finish its final rotation on its own — a reminder that the universe continues its movement without your effort.

Carry that truth with you into the day.
