This is the area along the front of the house that has always been a nuisance. The weeds here are almost impossible to control and rain this spring and now summer haven’t helped. So weed control became a major issue. I don’t like to spray and continuous pulling of the weeds is not an option. This area is where I leave my hose when it’s not in use, so weeds are a problem.
So, cardboard becomes the immediate option but not lasting because the newspapers will disintegrate and break up. This is on lose gravel and the weeds would probably re-appear after the cardboard disappears. So, I will cover the area in black plastic as a final ground cover.
Cardboard is a great source of weed control and if left in the garden will eventually turn to return to soil. Just make sure it is clean.
