Plants ready for garden and to give away

It’s a great day for spending time in the garden!

Seeds for new plants I started under lights are up and repotted. Many I’ll plant, but most I’ll give away. Also, what’s now in the greenhouse looks really good. I’ve always grown for the plant sales in Spring. But this year, I wanted to plan for a fall garden and replenishing what I’ve already planted. My earlier tomatoes were victims of over watering during transition from indoors to outside… You would think I’d know better after all these years. My new tomatoes go to show that there are second chances. All plants are free you can make a love offering to your favorite church or charity if you like. You can only take the plants you plan to plant in your own yard (not for resale).

In the greenhouse I have cantaloup, watermelon, cucumbers, and pumpkins. Downstairs ready to come out to the greenhouse is follows:

  • A tray of Big Boy and Better Boy tomatoes
  • A tray of San Marzano tomatoes
  • A tray of Roma tomatoes
  • Two trays of Beefsteak tomatoes
  • A tray of brussels sprouts and cauliflower
  • A tray of broccoli
  • A tray of Burpee cabbage
  • A tray of Ferry Morse orange butterfly and Hollyhock flowers
  • A tray of zinnias/bachelor buttons/blanket flowers
  • A tray of kale/basil

There are generally fourteen or fifteen pots in each tray. Every pot contains multiple plants. Also, a final tray of forget-me-not flowers that needs to be repotted. They’re still pretty small but need to be repotted in the next few days.

What I don’t grow myself will be given to those who need plants for their fall garden. I know it’s the second day of summer, but being prepared means we can do a lot of other things to enjoy the summer. Growing plants from seed is a great hobby or passion if you have been a committed gardener or simply starting out with a few plants. What’s important is to clear a space and let it grow as your time and energy can grow with it.

Finally, if you need any plants, you know where to come get them. Just look for the flowers on the corner of Jefferson and Cherokee here in Springfield. Pull into driveway on Cherokee, honk so I know you are here, and come on by. I love to talk about landscaping, giving a few tips, and giving away a few plants.
